Course Description
The course covers the distinction between merchants and tradesmen, the legal status and consequences of being a merchant, commercial enterprises, commercial books, merchant assistants, unfair competition, and distinctive trade names and signs. It also provides information on partnerships that can be established under Turkish law and negotiable instruments, specifically bills of exchange.

Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide knowledge on the fundamental concepts of commercial law.
Course Outcomes
1. Define the concepts of merchants and tradesmen and understand their impact on business types.
2. Distinguish between civil and commercial transactions, recognizing the different legal rules and sanctions that apply.
3. Differentiate between types of merchant assistants and identify their roles in specific legal cases.
4. Compare distinctive trade names and signs, understanding their development, economic significance, and protection in both national and international legal systems.
5. Explain the origins of the company concept, the role of companies in the economy, and the differences between them, while also understanding how to track legal developments and court decisions related to companies.
6. Define simple partnerships, understand their key elements, and compare them with commercial companies by identifying the differences in applicable legal rules.
7. Gain knowledge about the formation of commercial companies, relationships among partners, conflicts of interest within companies, and corporate governance, as well as the role of companies in sustainable development.
8. Classify negotiable instruments and understand the role of bills of exchange (promissory notes, bills of exchange, and checks) in commercial law.
9. Analyze the legal status of debtors and creditors in negotiable instruments and evaluate how conflicting interests can be balanced.
10. Understand the general characteristics of bills of exchange and distinguish between different types in practical applications.
