BMM 491 course covers the basic principles of medical imaging systems, hardware structures and image formation methods. Multi-dimensional signal processing, X-ray imaging systems, digital X-ray devices, digital angiography, computed tomography (CT), ultrasonography, color Doppler echocardiography, gamma camera devices, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems and thermal/optical imaging systems are examined within the scope of the course.

The aim of the BMM 491 course is to teach students the physical principles, hardware structures and image creation methods of medical imaging systems and to introduce the working principles and clinical applications of different imaging modalities.
1. Understanding the basic principles and physical infrastructure of medical imaging systems
2. Understanding the working principles and applications of X-ray imaging systems
3. Understanding computerized tomography systems and image formation algorithms
4. Being able to explain the physical principles and system components of magnetic resonance imaging
5. Understanding ultrasonography and Doppler imaging techniques
6. Being able to understand the working principles of nuclear medicine imaging systems
7. Understanding the basic features of thermal and optical imaging systems
8. Being able to evaluate the clinical applications and limitations of imaging systems
