Visual Communication Design
This course focuses on problem-solving methods in communication design, covering research, problem definition, target audience analysis, and visual solution development. Students will learn how to create cohesive and creative corporate identity designs while ensuring consistency in visual language. Additionally, they will develop effective visuals and slogans to design professional press advertisements tailored to a brand or institution. Through hands-on projects, students will enhance their design thinking, conceptualization, and execution skills to meet industry standards.

This course develops students' problem-solving skills in communication design, focusing on research, target audience analysis, and visual solutions. Students will create cohesive corporate identity designs and produce impactful visuals and slogans for print ads. By the end of the course, they will enhance their design thinking and execution skills, preparing for professional-level projects.
1. Uses the basic computer software and digital production techniques required in visual communication design studio projects at an applied level.
2. Transforms abstract concepts into basic concrete concepts through the creative thinking process in order to solve initial visual communication design problems.
3. Transforms the creative design ideas developed into basic visual expressions by using two-dimensional graphic and typographic elements.
4. Constructs the concepts of communicating the correct visual message (function) together with composition and color balance (aesthetics) in studio projects.
5. Plans and manages the design studio process at a basic level through the stages of research, sketch development, and presentation board preparation.

WEEK 1
Introduction to the course
What are logo/logotype and emblem, pictogram, sign, symbol, and icon?
ASSIGNMENT: Research on logo/emblem and corporate identity
WEEK 2
INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT TOPIC
PROJECT: Students will create a logo design based on the assigned project topic. Four logo alternatives will be developed.
Introduction to logo and corporate identity: lecture
Brief presentation
WEEK 3
Logo Design Critique: Project 1
Hand sketches will be made on squared paper: at least 10 sketches.
WEEK 4
Logo Design Critique: Project 1
Sketches will be presented.
WEEK 5

WEEK 6
Midterm Presentation Submission 1: Digital and printed submission of Project 1
The digitally submitted file must be in A4, 300 DPI, CMYK PDF format, and the file name must be “NAME SURNAME_LOGO.”
WEEK 7
PROJECT 2 – INTRODUCTION
A profession group created by the student will be selected and a concept will be developed. For the selected profession group, a name, logo/emblem, and corporate identity suitable for the concept will be designed. Within this scope, a brief will be prepared and presented.
Important: In this project, one of the logo types other than logotype will be selected.
Corporate Identity Design and Printed Products:
1 colored logo and 1 black-and-white logo shown on the logo template
