Course Description
The course involves all stages of a design project starting from selection of the topic till completion of the project. Students are expected to use the knowledge they acquired from their undergraduate courses. The course considers design of a machine part or a system with an open-end approach and covers all activities to reach to feasible solutions.

Course Objectives
This course prepares students for engineering with a major design experience. Students work in groups throughout the semester to design and implement a machine or a component. The main purpose of this course is to synthesize the theoretical and practical subjects they have learned in previous engineering courses and to experience the product design and prototyping processes in order to complete a satisfactory solution that will meet a need.
Course Outcomes
1. Ability to develop appropriate design solutions through product development process as a team (3A, 6A)
2. Hands on experience of designing prototypes and performing computational analysis for design alternatives considering environmental and health issues (3B, 4A, 4B, 13).
3. Apply and report the stages of product development process and use methods and technological tools throughout the process such as Customer Requirements Planning, Quality Function Deployment, Concept Selection, Architecture Design, Outsourcing and Make/Buy Decisions, standards, regional and international regulations (7A=7C+7D, 8, 9, 10A).
4. Improve communication skills in English via presentations (7D).
5. Improve communication skills in writing (7C)
6. Knowledge of statistical techniques and design of experiment (5A, 12)
7. Knowledge on legal matters (11B)
