Materials and Nanotechnology Engineering
This course is a laboratory class in which the production methods and processing techniques of engineering materials are examined through practical applications. Within the scope of the laboratory studies, the shaping of metals using casting, welding, and machining methods; the investigation of the hardenability behavior of steels through the Jominy end-quench test; and the production of parts using 3D printing (additive manufacturing) are conducted.

The aim of the course is to enable students to experimentally observe the manufacturing processes of different material classes and their effects on microstructure and mechanical properties. Additionally, students develop skills in preparing laboratory reports, analyzing results, and making engineering interpretations.
1. Students learn the fundamental principles of molding, melting, and solidification by performing casting processes.
2. Students understand the working principles of different welding methods and the effects of process parameters on joint quality through hands-on welding applications.
3. Students learn to analyze the effects of cutting speed, feed rate, and tool selection on surface quality in machining experiments.
4. Students determine the hardenability characteristics of steels and interpret hardness distributions by performing the Jominy end-quench test.
5. Students gain an understanding of the basic principles and applications of layer-based manufacturing technologies by applying the 3D printing (additive manufacturing) process.
6. Students acquire skills in preparing technical reports and drawing conclusions by evaluating the data obtained from all experiments.
