The overview of the psychology of learning, its definition, the basic concepts of learning, the biological and psychological fundaments of learning, classical learning theories (Pavlov, Skinner), mental discipline theory are discussed and the presence of these theories on the application are discussed with examples.

The aim of this course is to provide information about the basic mechanisms behind animal behavior and learning; to give information about the foundations of basic learning theories such as classical and operant conditioning; to introduce the biological and cognitive structures associated with learning.
1. Students will recognize the methods used for behavioral change and the variables that can affect the behavior.
2. They can generate strategies for behavioral change at a basic level.
Week 1: Introduction. Habituation and sensitization.
Week 2: Pavlovian conditioning (PC). Experimental procedures. + Quiz 1
Week 3: PC cont’d. CS-US temporal relations and extinction.
Week 4: PC cont’d. Contingency theory.
Week 5: Contingency. + Quiz 2
Week 6: PC cont’d. Extinction, conditioned inhibition and facilitation, occasion setting.
Week 7: PC cont’d. Biological constraints in PC. + Midterm
Week 8: Operant conditioning (OC). Reinforcement.
Week 9: OC cont’d. Free operant procedures and the schedules of reinforcement.
Week 10: OC cont’d. Schedules of reinforcement. + Quiz 3
Week 11: OC cont’d. Punishment.
Week 12: OC cont’d. Escape and avoidance. Learned helplessness. + Quiz 4
