Course Description
This course provides a general introduction to the discipline of history.

John Tosh, The Pursuit of History: Aims, methods and new directions in the study of history, London & New York: Routledge, 2015 (sixth edition).
Course Objectives
This course aims to teach students the letters of the Ottoman alphabet, the properties and uses of these letters, and word formation. It also aims to teach them how to form Turkish, Arabic, and Persian words with different suffixes in Ottoman Turkish. It also aims to teach them to read basic printed Ottoman texts.
Course Outcomes
1. Students who successfully complete this course will have a basic knowledge of current debates about history as a discipline.
2. The ability to evaluate primary sources with an analytical and critical approach.
3. The ability to make presentations and discuss issues in historiography.
