Basic features of letters with the Ottoman alphabet, spelling rules of Turkish words, Turkish derivational and inflectional suffixes, recognition of Arabic and Persian words, Arabic and Persian phrases, making plurals in Arabic and Persian, irregular plurals in Arabic, basic text reading exercises, basic reading exercises with Arabic-Persian word content.

This course aims to teach students the letters of the Ottoman alphabet, the properties and uses of these letters, and word formation. It also aims to teach them how to form Turkish, Arabic, and Persian words with different suffixes in Ottoman Turkish. It also aims to teach them to read basic printed Ottoman texts.

Week 4: Turkish pronouns and their declensions, declarative suffixes in Ottoman Turkish; reading exercise
Week 5: Turkish declensions and derivational suffixes in Ottoman Turkish; reading exercise
Week 6: Persian phrases; reading exercise
Week 7: Midterm exam
Week 8: Harf-i ta'rif and Arabic phrases; reading exercise
Week 9: Arabic and Persian regular plurals
Week 10: Reading exercise
Week 11: Arabic irregular plurals; reading exercise
