This course aims to teach the basic Arabic and Persian grammar elements required within the scope of Ottoman Turkish. Thus, it aims to enable students to read and understand Ottoman printed texts at an intermediate level. In this context, it is among the aims to bring students to a level where they can read and understand printed Ottoman chronicles in particular.
1. Learning basic Arabic and Persian grammar within the scope of Ottoman language.
2. Reading and understanding Ottoman printed texts with an emphasis on Arabic and Persian.
Week 1: Introduction to the course, explanation of goals and expectations. Arabic irregular plurals
Week 2: Arabic irregular plurals; text reading exercise
Week 3: Ism-i fail ism-i meful; Arabic prepositions (harf-i cerr)
Week 4: Arabic derived infinitives; text reading exercise
Week 5: Arabic derived infinitives; text reading exercise
Week 6: Arabic derived infinitives; Reading quiz
Week 7: Midterm exam
Week 8: Ism-i mekan, ism-i alet, ism-i mensub; text reading exercise
Week 9: Arabic adjectives, prepositions and pronouns; text reading exercise
