This course aims to teach the basic institutions and concepts of the Ottoman socio-economic structure. It aims to make students understand the changes experienced in the historical process of the Ottoman Empire and how these changes were reflected in the socio-economic understanding. While doing this, it is among the aims to make students aware of the current discussions in the literature through presentations.
1. To learn about the timar system, which was the basis of the socio-economic structure of the classical period, and the related çifthane and taxation methods.
2. To learn how the change in the socio-economic structure took place with the 17th century and its connection with Ottoman political history.
3. To learn about the radical change in the economic understanding in the 19th century.
