This course will cover the modernization movement that began in the late Ottoman period and the political, social, economic and cultural changes that this movement caused. In addition to the concept of modernization in the Ottoman context, arguments, debates and problems related to modernization will also be discussed in this course, with the help of first and second-hand sources, a different topic each week and late Ottoman historiography will also be discussed.

To better understand the current policies, problems and discussions by examining the roots of the modernization movement that left its mark on Turkey in the 20th and 21st centuries.
