Course Description
The changes and developments in political, social and economic life in Turkey between 1946-1980 will be discussed.

Course Objectives
In this course, the process of transition to multi-party system in Turkey is examined and the process of democracy in Turkey is evaluated. In this context, political, social, economic and cultural changes in Turkey between 1950-1980 are examined.
Course Outcomes
1. You will have accurate information about the political conflicts, turmoil, coups and constitutions in Turkey, starting from 1946, when the transition to multi-party system took place.

Week 2: Transition to Multi-Party System and Political Developments in the 1946-1950 Period
Week 3: Elections in 1950 and the Democratic Party Government
Week 4: Korean War and Turkey
Week 5: Turkey's Security Problems and NATO
Week 6: Regional Pacts and Turkey
Week 7: Midterm Exam
Week 8: Domestic Policy Developments in the 1957-1960 Period and the May 27 Military Coup
Week 9: Developments in the Transition to Democracy in the 1961-1965 Period
Week 10: Political Developments from the March 12 Memorandum to the September 12, 1980 Military Coup
