Course Description
In this course, Arabic and Persian grammar rules in Ottoman Turkish will be taught and these rules will be demonstrated in practice on texts. Studies will be conducted to increase Arabic and Persian vocabulary. Especially 18th and 19th century Ottoman texts will be read.

Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to teach how to Latinize Arabic-lettered texts, Arabic and Persian structures, and to ensure the understanding of phrases and compounds.
Course Outcomes
1. Can read and write Arabic-scripted texts at an intermediate level.
2. Learns Arabic and Persian structures at an introductory level.
3. Learns the meanings of words and sentence structures containing Arabic and Persian elements.
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Introduction to the course and determination of tasks
Week 2: Analysis of intermediate level Arabic-lettered texts
Week 3: Sources on which Ottoman Turkish texts are based
Week 4: Knowledge of Arabic and Persian word derivation
Week 5: Understanding the historical foundations of Ottoman Turkish grammar rules
Week 6: Learning Ottoman Turkish grammar rules
Week 7: Knowledge of Arabic and Persian phrases
Week 8: Knowledge of verse
Week 9: Arabic and Persian word patterns
Week 10: Transcription
Week 11: Reading and Interpreting a Sample Text
Week 12: Reading and Interpreting a Sample Text
