Turkish Language and Literature Undergraduate Program

In this course, theoretical and practical applications regarding how to conduct academic research and writing in the field of Turkish Language and Literature will be carried out.

The purpose of this course is to teach the techniques that should be applied when conducting scientific research and to demonstrate how to conduct a literature search.

1. Learns the types of academic writing.
2. Learns scientific research and writing techniques, how to limit the scientific subject and create a bibliography.
3. Can do academic writing practices.
4. Learns about the ethical boundaries of scientific research.

Week 1: Course description, structure and responsibilities
Week 2: What is scientific research and writing? Its purpose and nature. Types of academic writing: research article, review article, research report, academic critique, thesis, book, etc.
Week 3: Writing a book review
Week 4: Monitoring students’ writing
Week 5: Academic research: Identifying the research topic, aim and problem(s)
Week 6: Academic research: Literature review: the world of academic publishing (peer-reviewed journals, indexed journals), distinguishing between primary and secondary sources, databases
Week 7: Academic writing: Sections of an academic text
Week 8: Academic ethics: Why do we cite sources? Direct and indirect citation
Week 9: Academic writing: Methods of citing sources
Week 10: Monitoring student papers
Week 11: Presenting papers: preparation for paper presentations
Week 12: Paper presentations
