Course Description
Literary genres such as sagu, koşma, türkü, mani, ilahi, devriye, tezkire, şehirengiz, seyahatname, surname etc. that have been put forward as products of Turkish literature or Turkish and Islamic literatures will be introduced with their standing in the cultures where they originated from and continued; the relationships between them will be evaluated in general terms within the historical process.

Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to explain the sources of Turkish-Islamic Literature and to focus on basic topics such as aruz, literary arts, text commentary, verse forms, and types of verse in order to better understand Ottoman Divan Literature.
Course Outcomes
1. Learns the sources of Turkish-Islamic literature.
2. Learns the basic subjects such as verse forms, genres, literary arts, text commentary of Ottoman Divan literature.
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Introduction to the course, specification of responsibilities related to the course. Definition and framework of Ottoman Divan Literature, naming problem.
Week 2: Determining the common culture on which Ottoman Divan Literature is based, what was the language of this literature?
Week 3: How was poetry produced and consumed in Ottoman society?
Week 4: Content of Ottoman Divan Literature.
Week 5: Religion and Sufism as the source of Ottoman Divan poetry.
Week 6: Mythology as the source of Ottoman Divan poetry.
Week 7: Forms of verse.
Week 8: Types of verse.
Week 9: Examples of text commentary.
Week 10: Aruz information, application studies.
Week 11: Literary arts.
Week 12: Application studies.
