Course Description
Important works in the history of Turkish language and literature produced in the 16th century will be examined, the cultural environments in which these works were written will be introduced and their place in the history of literature will be evaluated.

Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to focus on the texts of poets and writers representing the 16th century Ottoman Divan literature and to examine the works produced in this century.
Course Outcomes
1. Learns the names and works of classical literature writers of the 16th century.
2. Reads and analyzes literary texts from this period.
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Introduction to the course, stating responsibilities. A general evaluation of biographies, reading the article “Ahmet Paşa” from Sehi Tezkiresi.
Week 2: Interpreting the question of how to extract material for cultural history from biographies through the “Zâtî” article in the Aşık Çelebi Tezkiresi.
Week 3: Interpreting the question "Is there Criticism in Ottoman Divan Literature?" through the preface of the Latîfî Tezkiresi. An evaluation of how the same poet finds a place in different biographies: the “Ahmet Paşa” article.
Week 4: A general evaluation of the 16th century Divan literature. Baki, the literary characteristics of his poetry; the nesip section of the "nuniyye kasidesi".
Week 5: Bahariye kasidesi
Week 6: Baki, Kanuni mersiyesi. The elegy (mersiye) written by Taşlıcalı Yahya for Rüstem Paşa
Week 7: Baki, the ghazals. Muhibbi, ghazals.
Week 8: Fuzuli, poetry features, musammat ghazal. Fuzuli, ghazal examples.
Week 9: Fuzuli, Su Kasidesi.
Week 10: Fuzuli, prose examples.
Week 11: Bağdatlı Ruhi, example of terkib-bend. Hayali, Zati, Hayreti, poetry examples, fatwa examples.
Week 12: Term paper presentations.
