The purpose of this course board is to teach the anatomy, histology, physiology and general embryology of the muscular and peripheral nervous systems.
1. Knows the general structural features of the nervous system
2. Defines the characteristics of transmission in the nervous system
3. Recognizes the sections of the peripheral nervous system with their structural, functional and biochemical features
4. Lists the components and structural features of the autonomic nervous system
5. Recognizes skeletal muscle macroscopically
6. Defines the electrical and mechanical properties of skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle and smooth muscle by comparing them with each other and correlating them with their structural features
7. Counts the skeletal muscles in all body parts
8. Lists the histological features of muscle and nerve tissues.
9. Shows skeletal muscles on cadavers and models
10. Shows peripheral nerves on cadavers and models
11. Uses light microscope correctly
12. Recognizes skeletal muscle and peripheral nerve structures on a light microscope
13. Draws and describes structures seen on a microscope
14. Measures compound action potential and nerve conduction velocity
15. Takes and evaluates electrical recordings from electrically stimulated tissues
16. Takes and evaluates mechanical recordings from muscle
