Course Description
This internship includes taking anamnesis from patients before surgery, communicating with patients, basic examination training and practice, file preparation, theoretical lessons, bedside training during visits, and participation in seminar programs within the clinic. Students monitor patients and surgeries in outpatient clinics and clinical services under the supervision of faculty members and assistants.

Course Objectives
Starting from the IVth term, students at the Faculty of Medicine combine the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in previous terms with practice, see the hospital environment, encounter patients, recognize health problems requiring surgical or interventional treatment related to the gastrointestinal system, endocrine system, vascular system, abdomen and breast in adult patients in the main branch of Surgery and explain treatment methods; provide the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to distinguish emergencies, perform first aid and refer them appropriately. The general surgery internship program aims to enable students in the IVth term to interpret the basic concepts and principles of medicine in patients, determine appropriate diagnostic and treatment approaches, gain the ability to apply basic clinical skills, and exhibit ethical attitudes and behaviors in scientific, professional and ethical values.
Course Outcomes
1. Explains the surgical anatomy of the gastrointestinal system, endocrine system, vascular system and abdominal organs, anogenital organs and

Lists and interprets the causes, formation mechanisms, clinical, laboratory, radiological and pathological findings of surgical diseases seen in the gastrointestinal system, endocrine system, vascular system, abdominal organs and anogenital organs, explains diagnostic-treatment approaches and principles.
3. Takes the patient's main complaint, medical history consisting of past history, family history and system questions by using communication techniques effectively.
4. Performs a physical examination of systems. (At the end of this internship, students will perform the following basic medical practices; perform head and neck examination, abdominal examination, digital rectal examination, superficial sutures and removal, know wound and burn care, and teach themselves breast examination. Evaluate general condition and vital signs, interpret screening and diagnostic examination results, and evaluate trauma severity scoring. )
5. Prepares clinical cases within medical presentation methods and presents them verbally
6. Select the test/analysis method for diagnosis in the appropriate order, using the knowledge related to the test/analysis tools and their characteristics.
7. Evaluate the patient's anamnesis, physical examination and diagnostic test results, make a preliminary diagnosis/diagnosis and rank the differential diagnosis.
8. Plan the treatment appropriate for the diagnosis at the primary level and explain the criteria for referral.
9. Explain the clinical characteristics of surgical emergencies/first aid.
10. Explain the principles of managing surgical emergencies and first aid situations (providing initial treatment, referring to a more advanced care unit under appropriate conditions).
11. Applies basic medical interventions (superficial suturing and removal, wound care, etc. ) for surgical diseases/procedures.
12. It adopts approaches and health policies for early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancers (breast, colorectal, thyroid) that are common in our country. It recognizes and reports diseases that must be reported at the primary care level while providing family medicine services.
13. It conducts literature searches in line with the defined purpose, critiques and analyzes the article, critically evaluates the information it reaches, understands the importance of multidisciplinary approach in general surgery, oncological surgery and transplantation, in the diagnosis and treatment processes of diseases and in post-treatment follow-up, organizes and presents.
14. It observes and applies ethical values ​​in the management of patients/diseases.
