Course Objectives
The purpose of this internship is to provide basic knowledge and skills in the field of adult psychiatry regarding disease symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, examination procedures and treatment methods.
Course Outcomes
1. Ability to take the history of the disease and perform a mental status examination
2. Ability to identify psychiatric symptoms and interpret the differential diagnosis of mental illnesses
3. Ability to make a holistic case assessment that includes neurobiological, psychological, sociocultural and legal aspects regarding the patient's diagnosis
4. Attention is paid to adopting a non-judgmental, ethical, consistent, respectful and honest attitude in the relationship with the patient and in sharing information with colleagues
5. Ability to interpret treatment approaches
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Introduction to Psychiatry Internship, Psychiatric History Taking and Mental Status Examination, Schizophrenia and Other Psychotic Disorders, Antipsychotics, Depression
Week 2: Bipolar Disorder and Other Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Acute Stress Disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Week 3: Antidepressants and Anxiolytics, Mood Stabilizers, Electroconvulsive Therapy and Other Somatic Treatments in Psychiatry
Week 4: Cognitive Disorders, Assessment of Cognitive Disorders - MMT Application, Free Work on Patient Preparation Forms
Week 5: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Related Disorders, Somatic Symptom Disorder and Related Disorders
Week 6: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder-Related Scale Applications of Disorders, Scale Applications of Somatic Symptom Disorders and Related Disorders, Personality Disorders
Week 7: Alcohol and Substance Use Disorders, Approach to Alcohol Use in Primary Care, Eating Disorders, Sleep Disorders, Neurobiology of Psychiatric Diseases I
Week 8: Gender Dysphoria, Concepts of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, Sexual Dysfunctions
Week 9: Psychiatric Emergencies, Outpatient Clinic, Bedside Practices Case Discussions, History, Ethical and Legal Issues
