This internship includes theoretical courses on the identification of skin lesions, dermatological examination, and the recognition, treatment and follow-up processes of common dermatological diseases and skin cancers. It also includes bedside training on the basis of taking anamnesis from patients applying to the outpatient clinic and performing dermatological examinations. Case discussion, diagnosis and differential diagnosis seminar and article program participation are included in the curriculum. The aim of this internship is to ensure that students have basic terminology used in the description of skin lesions, gain the ability to approach common dermatological diseases such as acne vulgaris, urticaria and psoriasis, learn the factors that cause skin infections, infestations and sexually transmitted diseases, their prevention methods and treatments at a basic level, recognize skin lesions that may suggest keratinocytic skin cancers and melanoma, and establish correct communication with patients and provide accurate information and guidance about their diseases with up-to-date, evidence-based medical management.
1. At the end of this internship, students will be able to; define the structure of the skin and elementary lesions, list the elementary lesions seen in diseases, and explain the terminological expressions frequently used when defining skin lesions.
2. Classify the common bacterial, parasitic, fungal and viral diseases of the skin, make diagnosis, differential diagnosis and primary treatment.
3. Recognize acne vulgaris and rosacea, make differential diagnoses, and organize primary treatment.
4. Recognize urticaria and angioedema, organize treatment in primary care, and recognize and guide situations requiring urgent intervention.
5. Describe the concept of eczema, list the causes and clinical findings of skin eczema, and organize treatment in primary care.
6. Recognize the skin findings of sexually transmitted diseases, list risk factors, and make differential diagnoses.
7. List the differential diagnoses in patients presenting with erythema and squama, and organize the first-line treatment of common papulosquamous diseases.
8. List the risk factors for keratinocytic carcinomas, list the clinical signs, symptoms and differential diagnoses, and list the treatment and follow-up procedures.
9. Explain the etiopathogenesis of psoriasis, and describe the clinical signs and symptoms.
10. Describe the etiopathogenesis of connective tissue diseases and Behçet's disease, and list the cutaneous findings.
11. List the risk factors for melanoma, define the skin lesions that cause suspicion of melanoma, and appropriately direct patients with appropriate indications
