Course Description
Providing intern doctors with the necessary skills to obtain a good anamnesis from patients with respiratory system problems, to perform a good respiratory system examination, to diagnose and make differential diagnosis of common respiratory system diseases, to provide appropriate treatment at the primary care level or to refer necessary patients to a higher level health center by providing appropriate referral conditions.

Course Objectives
To train physicians who are aware of the clinical findings of common respiratory system diseases, who can make diagnosis and differential diagnosis, who can provide appropriate treatment at the primary level and who can refer necessary patients to a higher level health center by providing appropriate referral conditions, who are respectful of professional ethical rules, who are investigative, questioning and have problem-solving skills, who have perfectly learned anamnesis and physical examination techniques, and who have acquired the necessary practical skills.
Course Outcomes
1. Takes history from a patient with respiratory tract disease, and performs a very thorough respiratory system examination.
2. Requests appropriate radiological and laboratory tests from patients with respiratory tract problems.
3. Recognizes pathologies in direct chest radiography, and makes differential diagnosis.
4. Recognizes ventilatory pathologies in respiratory function tests, and makes differential diagnosis of obstruction/restriction/mixed type ventilatory disorder.
5. Recognizes acidosis/alkalosis pathologies in arterial blood gases, and distinguishes metabolic/respiratory.
6. Diagnoses asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) and pneumonia, makes differential diagnosis, and initiates first-line treatment.
7. Knows the ways of protection against tuberculosis and transmission
8. Recognizes respiratory tract diseases that require urgent treatment, applies emergency treatment, takes the necessary precautions and directs them to the appropriate centers.
9. Makes a differential diagnosis in patients presenting with chest pain and shortness of breath, applies emergency treatment and takes the necessary precautions and directs them to the appropriate centers.
10. Knows how to perform procedures such as thoracentesis and intubation
11. Know the basic principles of ventilator/ventilator support. Applies to patients with acute respiratory failure.
12. Knows the symptoms of interstitial lung diseases and sleep apnea, and directs them to the appropriate center.
