Course Description
In this course, students will be able to explain the state system established in the post-Soviet period, the reasons behind the emergence of this system, the way the state system is implemented, the problems of the system and the future of the Russian system.

Course Objectives
To acquaint students with the basics of the state system and political life in Russia, to develop the language skills necessary to discuss political and social issues and to orient themselves in the official and public sphere.
Course Outcomes
1. Students can expand their vocabulary on the topics of “state power,” “politics,” and “law.”
2. Students can apply grammatical structures specific to official and journalistic style.
3. Students may not know how to read and discuss political news and official documents, and how to engage in dialogue on public administration and political issues.
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Introduction to the course. State structure of Russia. Basic information about Russia: territory, population, federal structure.
Week 2: Basic information about Russia: territory, population, federal structure.
Week 3: President of Russia and the executive branch.
Week 4: The role of the president in the power system.
Week 5: Political regime and form of government.
Week 6: Main political parties of Russia
Week 7: Judiciary and law enforcement.
Week 8: Police and Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Week 9: Diplomatic relations with other countries.
Week 10: Internet and social networks in the political sphere.
Week 11: Final discussion and review of material.
Week 12: Final exam.
