Turkish Language and Literature Postgraduate Program

In modern Turkish literature, literary communities are usually clustered around a journal. Starting from the Servet-i Fünun journal, which was formed by the Servet-i Fünun community, there are many journals in modern Turkish literature such as Malûmat, Genç Kalemler, Dergâh, Hayat, Türk Yurdu, Yeni Mecmua, Kadro, Varlık, Büyük Doğu, Diriliş, Yeni Dergi, Papirüs. In this course, the intellectual and literary journals that contributed to the formation of a literary movement in Turkish literature will be reviewed.

To talk about the magazines in Turkish literature and their importance; to focus on the major magazines, the most influential magazines, the long-lasting magazines, the magazines that gave color to the period and internet magazine publishing.

1. Learns the magazine and newspaper publishing process in Turkey.
2. Conducts research and analysis on prominent newspapers and magazines on certain subjects.

Week 1: Master's and doctoral level theses reviewed by various professors at various universities. Each week, a thesis will be reviewed and a presentation will be made about it. Particular emphasis will be placed on methodological differences and review styles. We will try to determine exemplary journals for our own review.

Week 5: A bibliography of journal reviews published in academic publications will be prepared. We will work together on the relevant bibliography. The ones we find appropriate from these publications will be critiqued in class as written texts.

Week 9: Determining the journal we will review. Taking care not to repeat ourselves on this subject, how is this done? What are chronological index, author name index, subject and genre index, how are they prepared? The mental attitude, literary and artistic understanding of the magazine we will work on. Determinations that need to be made on the subject. Converting these into receipts. Leading poets and storytellers, prominent critics if any, etc. Also the financial resources of the magazine, prominent advertising support (such as domestic and foreign private companies and the public).
