Computer Engineering Bachelor's Degree Program

Program Information

General Information

The TOBB ETÜ Computer Engineering Program, established in 2004, graduated its first students in 2008. The department has 9 faculty members specializing in various research areas such as computer architecture, information security and cryptography, human-computer interaction, computer vision, image processing, data mining, bioinformatics, computational geometry, algorithmic game theory, theoretical computer science, robotics, and software engineering. In the first three semesters, students receive foundational education in mathematics, physics, and computer programming. Starting from the third semester, core courses in the field begin. TOBB ETÜ follows a three-semester compulsory education system. After completing the fifth semester, students undertake their first cooperative education (internship), which is a paid and insured internship program lasting one semester. Following the first internship, students continue alternating between coursework and internships until graduation, completing their studies in 11 semesters. In their last two academic semesters, students choose elective courses, including four department-specific electives, one faculty elective, one elective from outside the faculty, and one science elective, allowing them to specialize in their preferred fields. In the final year, students undertake a two-semester senior design project, applying their acquired knowledge to a comprehensive group project.

Program Educational Objectives

1. Work as computer engineers in high-tech companies and institutions.
2. Pursue graduate studies in Computer Science and Computer Engineering.
3. Possess professional competence on a global scale.

Degree Earned

Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering.

Level of Degree Earned

The Computer Engineering program is a Bachelor's degree program, classified as Level 6 in the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ).

Requirements and Rules of the Degree Earned

Graduation requirements are defined in Article 45 of the Undergraduate Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulation (https://www. mevzuat. gov. tr/mevzuat?MevzuatNo=15287&MevzuatTur=8&MevzuatTertip=5). Admission Requirements

The number of students admitted to the undergraduate program is determined by the Senate's recommendation and approved by the Board of Trustees with the approval of the Higher Education Council (YÖK). Admission to the first year of the undergraduate program is based on the results of the nationwide university entrance examination (ÖSYM). Admission of international students is determined by Senate regulations. Transfers from other universities (lateral and vertical transfer), exchange programs, and special admissions follow the Senate's regulations based on national higher education policies.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students must have completed secondary (high school) education and achieved a qualifying score in the national university entrance examination. Courses previously taken at another institution may be considered equivalent by the Department Board and Faculty Administrative Board, allowing students to transfer credits.

Examination and assessment methods are defined in Article 22 of the Undergraduate Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulation (https://www. mevzuat. gov. tr/mevzuat?MevzuatNo=15287&MevzuatTur=8&MevzuatTertip=5). A Final is mandatory for all courses except projects, laboratory courses, and courses exempted by Senate decision. At least one midterm must be conducted for each course. Finals take place within the designated academic calendar period, with exam dates and locations determined by the Rectorate.

Mode of Instruction

The program is a full-time, formal education program. Most courses are conducted face-to-face in classrooms. Only the Turkish Language (TÜR 101, 102) and Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms (AİT 201, 202) courses are delivered via online education.

Occupational Profile of Graduates - Employment Opportunities

Most of our graduates find a job within six months of graduation. Additionally, 30 %of them begin working at the institutions where they completed their Cooperative Education (internship). Graduates predominantly work in fields such as software development, data analytics, defense, information security, telecommunications, and IT. Some of the leading organizations where our graduates are employed include ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, TÜBİTAK, TAI, ARÇELİK, TÜRK TELEKOM, HAVELSAN, and various Technopark companies. They typically hold positions as software engineers, data analysts, cybersecurity specialists, R&D engineers, systems engineers, and test engineers. Moreover, 10 %of our graduates establish their own technology start-ups or continue their careers in family businesses.

Access to Further Study

Candidates who successfully complete their undergraduate education are eligible to apply for graduate programs if they have a minimum ALES score of 65/100, a language proficiency score of 60/100, and an undergraduate GPA of at least 2. 30. Higher scores in these exams are required for admission with tuition exemption or as a full scholarship student (tuition exemption + living stipend). For international students, a GRE score may be accepted in place of ALES.
