Course Objectives
This course aims to explore the relationship between literature and psychology. The common aim of both fields is to understand human nature, the development of the psyche and human behavior. Therefore, these two fields are intertwined. are related, but their methods are different. In this course, psychoanalysis and psychological theories initiated by Sigmund Freud literary examples will be examined. Important developments in the psychoanalytic approach starting with Freud, terms and shifts in psychoanalysis with reference to leading figures in psychoanalysis such as Jacques Lacan and Julia Kristeva. will be monitored.

1. Understand the connection between literature and human psychology
2. To be able to analyze text with psychoanalytic approach
3. To learn the development of the psychoanalytic approach
4. To learn the ideas of important thinkers of psychoanalysis

Week 3: Freud: "The Uncanny": Return of the Repressed: Analysis of P. Shaffer, Equus (1973)
Week 4: Freud: "The Uncanny": H. James, Turn of the Screw (1898) • film analysis
Week 5: Lacan: linguistic approach to psychology
Week 6: Midterm & Lacan continued.
Week 7: Lacan: linguistic approach: Analysis of M. Shelley, Frankenstein (1818)
Week 8: Kristeva: the return of the mother, feminist psychoanalysis
Week 9: Kristeva: the return of the mother, feminist psychoanalysis
