Course Description
The course consists of lectures, presentations, research assignments, as well as the practice of measured drawing, focusing on the issues of conservation of architectural heritage.

Course Objectives
BIn the scope of this course, it is aimed to provide the ability to understand examples of architecture on a global and local scale, as well as knowledge related to conservation theory and practices, within the context of natural, historical, and cultural relationships; to instill an awareness of protecting cultural heritage with environmental sensitivity and ethical responsibility; and to explain the topics of cultural heritage, conservation awareness, environmental sensitivity, and ethical responsibility through the discussion of conservation theories and methods.
Course Outcomes
1. Defines the changes and developments of different conservation theories that emerged throughout history (Knowledge).
2. Examines and explains international charters related to conservation (Knowledge).
3. Introduces and explains methods and processes for conservation and rehabilitation at the environmental scale (Knowledge).
4. Examines and explains related fields such as industrial heritage areas and urban typo-morphology in connection with historic environment conservation (Knowledge).
5. Introduces and explains examples of historic environment conservation in detail from Turkey and around the world (Knowledge).
6. Individually explains interpretation questions related to the topics covered in class through short written responses (Competency).
7. In pairs, conducts a literature review of a selected historic environment or settlement, visits the site, and analyzes and evaluates conservation and rehabilitation interventions based on the given content (Competency).
8. Prepares the study as a scientific poster in groups and presents it in more detail in a video format (Skill).
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Introduction. Providing information about the course content and structure. Discussion of students' knowledge and expectations regarding the field/discipline.
Week 2: Introduction to the Course, Grading Criteria, Rules for Academic Writing.
Week 3: LECTURE: History of Conservation Theory, World Heritage List, Fundamentals of Conservation at the Architectural Scale I / Key Concepts in Conservation.
Week 4: LECTURE: International Charters Related to Conservation / Fundamentals of Conservation at the Architectural Scale II.
Week 5: LECTURE: LECTURE: Fundamentals of Conservation at the Architectural Scale II / Examples of Architectural Restoration Projects.
Week 6: Submission of Group Term Assignment. LECTURE: Traditional Ottoman Housing.
Week 7: GUEST LECTURER + Examples of Conservation at the Architectural Scale.
Week 8: LECTURE: Balance Between Conservation and Usage: The Tourism Aspect of Conservation.
Week 9: LECTURE: Examples of Conservation at the Architectural Scale.
Week 10: FIELD TRIP: Visit to Restored Historic Buildings. Submission of Group Term Assignment Presentations.
Week 11: Group Term Assignment Presentations.
Week 12: Group Term Assignment Presentations.
