Course Description
The course consists of lectures, presentations, research assignments, as well a sthe practice of measured drawing, focusing on the issues of conservation of architectural heritage.

Course Objectives
In the scope of this course, it is aimed to provide the ability to understand examples of architecture on a global and local scale, as well as knowledge related to conservation theory and practices, within the context of natural, historical, and cultural relationships; to instill an awareness of protecting cultural heritage with environmental sensitivity and ethical responsibility; and to explain the topics of cultural heritage, conservation awareness, environmental sensitivity, and ethical responsibility through the discussion of conservation theories and methods.
Course Outcomes
1. Defines the changes and developments of different conservation theories that have emerged throughout history (Knowledge).
2. Examines and explains international regulations on conservation (Knowledge).
3. Introduces and explains architectural conservation and restoration methods and techniques on a single-structure scale (Knowledge).
4. Explains and defines the spatial and structural characteristics of the traditional Ottoman house, different traditional housing types in different regions, and the effects of traditional houses on the works of contemporary architects with examples (Knowledge).
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Information on the course content, evaluation criteria, semester report, and presentation.
Week 2: LECTURE: History of Conservation Theory.
Week 3: LECTURE: Cultural Landscape Areas.
Week 4: LECTURE: International Charters Related to Urban Conservation, World Heritage List, Key Concepts in Conservation, Fundamentals of Environmental Scale Conservation.
Week 5: LECTURE: Industrial Heritage / Historical Beykoz Center in Istanbul and AOÇ (Atatürk Forest Farm) Example in Ankara.
Week 6: LECTURE: Urban Morphology: Historical City Center of Bursa.
Week 7: LECTURE: The Concept of Typology / Architectural Typology in the Historical City Center of Antakya and Kurtuluş Street.
Week 8: LECTURE: Historic Neighborhoods of Istanbul / Conservation Practices in the Fener-Balat-Ayvansaray Region.
Week 9: FIELD TRIP: Güdül-Beypazarı (Participation will be recorded as part of the course).
Week 10: LECTURE: Conservation in the World Heritage Site of Safranbolu.
Week 11: The Islamic City. Comparison of the Historic City Center of Tunis (Capital of Tunisia) and Antakya.
Week 12: Group Term Assignment Presentations.
