General Information

TOBB ETÜ PH. D. program in Computer Engineering Program, founded in 2007. There are currently 9 faculty members in the department. The faculty research is mostly in the areas of compuer architecture, information security and cryptography, human-computer interaction, image processing, computer vision, data mining, bioinformatics, computational geometry, algorithmic game theory, theoretical computer science, robotics, and software engineering. Graduation from the program requires taking 7 (at least 9 ECTS each), respectively. Students can take some courses from outside of the department. Students are also required to take the BIL 697 Doctoral Seminar (8 ECTS), BIL 699 PhD Thesis course (120 ECTS)and FBE 600 Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics course. Program Educational Objectives

1. The purpose of the Ph. D. Program in Computer Engineering is to educate successful engineers and academicians that are capable of leadership in serving the science and humanity and are strong in adapting to the ever-changing world.


Degree Earned

Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a Ph. D. Degree in Computer Engineering.


Level of Degree Earned

The Computer Engineering program is a Ph. D. degree program, classified as Level 8 in the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ).


Requirements and Rules of the Degree Earned

Graduation requirements are defined according to Article 28 of the Fraduate Education and Examination Regulation (link: https: //www. mevzuat. gov. tr/mevzuat?MevzuatNo=8039&MevzuatTur=8&MevzuatTertip=5). For graduation the student should a) successfully complete 7 courses (at least 63 ECTS), BIL 697 Graduate seminar (8 ECTS), BIL 699 PhD Thesis (120 ECTS) and FBE 600 Scientific Research Methods and Publication Ethics within the maximum allowable time period b) obtain a GPA of 3. 00/4. 00. For graduation the student has to publish an SCI indexed journal paper and one conference paper.


Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the master's program, candidates must 1) hold a Master's degree, 2) obtain a minimum score of 75/100 on the ALES exam, (for international students, GRE scores are accepted instead of ALES. )3) and, obtain a minimum score of 60/100 on one of the following language proficiency exams: YDS, KPDS, TOEFL, or IELTS. Candidates who meet these requirements will be invited for an interview. Students who wish to study with a tuition waiver or a full scholarship (which includes both a tuition waiver and a living stipend) must have higher academic averages and test scores. Recognition of Prior Learning

The equivalency and content compatibility of a course previously taken by a student at another institution are evaluated by the Department Board and the Graduate School Board. If the course is deemed equivalent, it will be accepted as a substitute for the corresponding program course with its letter grade for students who transferred via ÖSYM or lateral transfer.


Examinations, Assessment and Evaluation

Evaluation and assessment methods used for each course are defined according to the Graduate Education and Examination Regulation (link: https: //www. mevzuat. gov. tr/mevzuat?MevzuatNo=8039&MevzuatTur=8&MevzuatTertip=5). Except the project and laboratory courses, which do not necessarily require an examination, all courses require at least a midterm and a final exam. Final exams are applied in a specific period of time indicated in the Academic Calendar. Final exam period and classrooms are determined by the Rectorate.


Mode of Instruction

The style of education is Full-Time and Day-Time. Most of the courses are given in classrooms.
