Program Information
The Department of Biomedical Engineering was established with the aim of training creative and academically oriented biomedical engineers who can utilize engineering methods to comprehensively define the human body as a system, contribute to the development of more effective diagnostic and treatment strategies, and are equipped with universal knowledge. The department has commenced education at the doctoral level. As of 2025, the department employs 3 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 4 Assistant Professors, and 1 Research Assistant on a full-time basis. Our Ph. D. program has been carefully designed and is periodically updated according to international standards to meet the requirements of post-graduation work environments.
1. To provide doctoral education at an international level, training biomedical engineers who can successfully take part in design, production, implementation, and R&D activities in industry and research institutions. These engineers will be creative, possess a systematic approach to problem-solving, be team-oriented, environmentally conscious, and have social, economic, and professional ethical awareness, responsibility, and leadership qualities.
2. To enable specialization in one of the subfields of Biomedical Engineering.
Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a Ph. D. Degree in Biomedical Engineering.
The Biomedical Engineering program is a Ph. D. degree program, classified as Level 8 in the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ).
For graduation from the Biomedical Engineering Ph. D. Program, students must have a minimum GPA of 3. 00 out of 4. 00 and successfully complete all required courses in the curriculum with at least a CC/G grade. Additionally, students are required to give an oral presentation on their thesis topic at a national or international conference.

The instructor of each course announces the weight of short quizzes, midterms, final exams, assignments, practicals, and other activities, as well as the attendance requirements, to the students in the course syllabus at the beginning of the term. The dates and locations of the final exams are determined by the Rectorate. The grade a student receives for the course is determined by the combined evaluation of short quizzes, midterms, assignments, projects, and other practical work, as well as the final exam.
Full-time
Students in the Biomedical Engineering PhD Program must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3. 00 out of 4. 00 for graduation and must successfully complete all the courses required by the curriculum with at least a CC/G grade. It is mandatory for the student to make an oral presentation at a national or international conference related to their thesis topic.
Graduates of the Biomedical Engineering PhD Program can work in the healthcare sector in the design, manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of medical devices, in medical imaging and signal processing, in the medical informatics sector, in the production of prosthetics, orthotics, and implants, as well as in the fields of tissue engineering, genetics, and drug development.
Candidates who successfully complete the Biomedical Engineering PhD program can pursue post-doctoral studies, academic positions as assistant/research assistant professor or high-level industrial jobs related to their field of interest.
