Program Information

General Information

The Private Law Master's Program at TOBB-ETU Graduate School of Social Sciences started its education in the 2019-2020 academic year. Including the 2024-2025 academic year, a total of 58 students have enrolled, and the number of graduates is 17. The department has 19 faculty members and 10 research assistants. Courses are conducted by expert faculty members within the framework of academic autonomy. The program includes one compulsory course and offers a wide range of elective courses to support students in their specialization preferences. In the annual Academic Board meeting, the courses for the respective academic year are determined by considering current developments, faculty suggestions, and student evaluations. Students who have a particular interest in a public law course or wish to take an English-taught course from their undergraduate studies are given the opportunity to enroll in such courses within a specific quota. Additionally, students can take courses from other master's programs within the Graduate School of Social Sciences with the approval of their advisor. At TOBB-ETU Graduate School of Social Sciences, education is structured into three terms: fall, spring, and summer.


Program Educational Objectives

The goal is to train academics, experts, and practitioners who have strong reasoning skills, possess refined knowledge in their field, have high analytical abilities, can grasp the social, economic, and political background of law, keep up with the current affairs, are familiar with new developments occurring in national and international arenas, and can find solutions to legal disputes.


Degree Earned

Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a Master's Degree in Private Law.


Level of Degree Earned

The Private Law program is a Master's degree program, classified as Level 7 in the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ).


Requirements and Rules of the Degree Earned

The minimum total number of credits required to obtain a Master's degree with thesis: 21, ECTS: 63 + 8 + 60 Compulsory courses to be taken: 1 course. Elective courses to be taken: 6 courses. These courses include seminar and master thesis. The minimum total number of credits required to obtain an MA degree without thesis: 30, ECTS: 90 Compulsory courses to be taken: 1 course. Elective courses to be taken: 9 courses. Although there is no credit among these courses, term project is also included.


Admission Requirements

The admission of graduate student candidates to the programme is carried out according to the relevant provisions of TOBB University of Economics and Technology Graduate Education and Examination Regulations and within the quotas determined by the university. Recognition of Prior Learning

Candidates applying to the Private Law Master's Programs must have a Law Undergraduate Diploma.


Examinations, Assessment and Evaluation

There are three types of exams: midterm, general exam and make-up exam. Midterm exams can be held during the semester. Projects, homework, laboratories, workshops and similar studies can also replace the midterm exam. Students who fulfil the attendance requirement take the general exam on the day and time specified at the end of the semester. In order to be successful in a course in the master's programme, a minimum grade of CC is required, and in the doctoral programme, a minimum grade of BB is required. A grade of (G) is given to successful term project, seminar course or thesis course. Unsuccessful term project, seminar course or thesis course is given a grade of (K). Mode of Instruction

The type of education is Full-Time First Education. Courses are conducted face-to-face in the classroom and in an active learning format.


Graduation Requirements

For the Thesis-Based Private Law Master's Program, it is required to successfully complete the required courses, write a seminar paper and a master's thesis, and successfully defend the thesis. For the Non-Thesis Private Law Master's Program, it is required to successfully complete the required courses and write a term project.


Occupational Profile of Graduates - Employment Opportunities

Graduates of the TOBB ETU Graduate School of Social Sciences Private Law Master's Program have proven their success in the field of law by working in prestigious and significant law firms in Turkey. Additionally, according to the Graduate Success Atlas data available on yokatlas. yok. gov. tr, they have demonstrated success in the Judicial Examination and KPSS. Besides careers such as judgeship, prosecution, lawyering, and notary, which are exclusive to law school graduates, they also continue their professional activities in specialized areas in both the public and private sectors. Furthermore, TOBB ETU Graduate School of Social Sciences Private Law Master's Program graduates are accepted into Ph. D. programs at various universities both in Turkey and around the world.


Access to Further Study

Since there is no TOBB-ETÜ Graduate School of Social Sciences Private Law Ph. D. Program, data entry regarding the next level, the doctoral program, is not possible.
