Political Science and International Relations Ph. D. Degree Program

Program Outcomes

1) Having earned the PhD degree, the graduates can explain the basic, complex, and controversial concepts of the disciplines of Political Science and International Relations and interpret current events within the framework of these concepts.

2) Covering both the canons and the recent contributions in the major sub-disciplines, such as Comparative Politics and International Relations; they have a command of the empirical, normative, and critical theories there.

3) They can discover and evaluate the contributions to the literature related to their field with a critical approach. They are competent in how to access data sources and how to use these sources in their own studies in accordance with methodological standards and scientific ethics.

4) They can discover prominent qualitative and quantitative research methods in the relevant field. They can make use of current technological tools, and use them for empirical analysis.

5) They can develop and present original research proposals through individual and collaborative work, academic communication, and discussions.

6) They can identify and analyze global and national political processes, actors, and problems by evaluating analytical approaches that address both macro and micro levels.

7) They can acquire the conceptual, theoretical, and empirical knowledge of the subfields -such as Political Economy, Security, Political Theory, and Political Behavior- and can contribute to the literature of these fields.

8) Incorporating contributions from neighboring disciplines such as History, Sociology, and Economics, they can produce comprehensive analyses on different regions in world politics and can offer new analytical perspectives and theoretical contributions with these analyses.

9) They can convey their scientific work and discussions in written and oral forms in accordance with academic criteria.

10) Given that the medium of instruction is English, they can follow theoretical discussions, empirical studies, and methodology knowledge as presented in current global academic literature; they can present their original works beyond national platforms, at the international level as well.
