Course Description
In this course, students examine and learn the main characteristics of the 17th century and the Restoration period. They learn the works produced in the period and the concepts and terms related to the period, and comprehend the ways of interpreting these works with a critical perspective and producing ideas on these works.

Course Objectives
This course will cover the works of English literature of the 17th century and the Restoration period.
aims to study and learn about its main authors.
Course Outcomes
1. Adequate knowledge of the main features of English literature of the 17th century and the Restoration period (at undergraduate level) to have knowledge.
2. To be able to produce analytical approaches to the major, important literary works of the period.
3. To be able to analyze the characteristics of the social and historical background that paved the way for the authors of the period to produce their works. to find out.

Week 1: Historical and cultural background of the period
Week 2: Metaphysical Poetry; John Donne and his poems
Week 3: John Donne and his poems
Week 4: George Herbert and his poetry
Week 5: Andrew Marvell and his poetry
Week 6: John Milton and Paradise Lost; Sonnet and "When I Consider How My Light is Spent"
Week 7: "Eve's Apology in Defense of Women" (Amelia Lanyer); "Milton, Mary Shelley and Patriarchy" (Burton Hatlen)
Week 8: Prose; John Locke and "Essay on Human Understanding"
Week 9: The Natural Condition of Man from Thomas Hobbes and Leviathan: Felicity and Misery
Week 10: Restoration-era comedy; William Congreve and The Way of the World;
Week 11: Mock-Epic; Alexander Pope and "The Rape of the Lock"
