Course Description
In the course, the meaning, scope and codification process of civil law, the characteristics and structure of legal rules, the concept of right and right holder, the principles governing Turkish civil law and real and legal persons in the context of the law of persons are discussed.

Course Objectives
The aim of the Civil Law I course is mainly to provide students with the knowledge of the characteristics and structure of the rules of law and the sources of Turkish civil law, the gap and the judge's creation of law. In addition, it is aimed to provide the students with basic information about the concept of right, the right holder, the acquisition and loss of rights and the protection of rights. In addition to the basic principles of Turkish civil law, students are expected to acquire knowledge on the law of persons.
Course Outcomes
1. Has a command of the definition and functions of law. Have knowledge about the characteristics and structure of the rules of law.
2. Has knowledge about the historical changes in Turkish civil law. Compares the sources of Turkish civil law. Has knowledge of the methods of legal methodology regarding the gap and the judge's creation of law. Have knowledge about the effect of the basic principles of Turkish civil law on other branches of law.
3. To know how to apply the rules of law in terms of time and place.
4. Defines the concepts of right and right holder. Have knowledge about the acquisition and loss of rights.
5. Defines the beginning and termination of personality and the capacity of rights and the capacity to act.
6. Dominates the concept of personality rights and methods of protection of personality.
7. Has knowledge about legal persons regulated in the Civil Code.
8. Has the ability to work individually and as a team member in the face of problems related to civil law with the application studies carried out within the scope of the course.
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Basic concepts and initial provisions of civil law, definition, function, basic values and branches of law, characteristics and structure of legal rules.
Week 2: Meaning and scope of civil law and codification of civil law, basic principles of Turkish civil law, change in Turkish civil law.
Week 3: Application of Turkish civil law, written sources of Turkish civil law, customary law, auxiliary tools in the application of civil law, application of legal rules in terms of meaning.
Week 4: Gap-creation of law by the judge, discretion in the application of civil law, application of civil law rules according to the nature of the rule, application of civil law rules in terms of time and place.
Week 5: The concept of right, right holder, acquisition and loss of rights.
Week 6: Basic principles of Turkish civil law, the principle of integrity of Turkish civil law and the principle of good faith in Turkish civil law
Week 7: Basic principles of Turkish civil law, the rule of honesty and the prohibition of abuse of right.
Week 8: Protection of rights, proof of the case and defense, official registers and deeds.
Week 9: General information about the law of persons, the beginning and termination of personality, capacity of rights.
Week 10: The concept of capacity to act, the distinction of persons in terms of capacity to act, personality rights and assets worthy of protection.
Week 11: Protection of personality, general principles regarding legal persons.
Week 12: Associations and foundations.
