Course Description
Political Parties and Election Law course deals with political parties and electoral processes, which are the basic elements of democratic political systems, in a legal framework. Within the scope of the course, issues such as the establishment, functioning, financing and dissolution of political parties, electoral systems, electoral processes, principles of electoral law and electoral security are examined. In addition, issues such as political rights, the right to vote and be elected, and judicial review of elections are discussed within the framework of constitutional and international norms. The course aims to provide students with a legal and theoretical perspective on political parties and electoral processes.

Course Objectives
The aim of the course “Political Parties and Election Law” is to teach students the functioning of political parties and the basic principles of election law and to gain the ability to analyze legal regulations in this field. Students should be able to analyze different models of electoral systems and make comparative analysis with the electoral law practices in Turkey. They are also expected to understand how the structures, functions and roles of political parties in elections are shaped within the framework of the law. The course aims to provide students with the theoretical background necessary for an in-depth understanding of the legal foundations of democratic systems and electoral processes.
Course Outcomes
1. Recognizes the place and functioning of political parties in law.
2. Has a command of the basic principles of electoral law and electoral laws in Turkey and compares them.
3. Distinguishes the characteristics of different electoral systems and defines the electoral system in Turkey.
4. Has a command of the functions and structure of political parties and their roles in electoral processes.
5. Recognizes the legal problems encountered in the electoral process and applies solution proposals.
6. Evaluates the impact of electoral law on democratic systems and masters these impacts.
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Definition and Place of Political Parties in Law Definition, types and legal framework of political parties will be discussed.
Week 2: Election Law and Basic Principles Basic principles and systems of electoral law will be examined.
Week 3: Electoral System and Constitution in Turkey The electoral system and constitutional order in Turkey will be discussed.
Week 4: Political Parties Law and Election Laws Regulations in the Law on Political Parties and election laws will be discussed.
Week 5: Candidacy and Election Process The election process, candidate nomination and voter registration will be discussed.
Week 6: Election Security and Legal Issues Election security, election objections and legal processes will be examined.
Week 7: Political Parties and Public Power The relationship of political parties with the state and public funds will be discussed.
Week 8: The Place of Women and Minorities in the Electoral Process Representation of women and minorities in elections will be discussed.
Week 9: International Electoral Law International election standards and monitoring organizations will be discussed.
Week 10: Election Challenges and Audit Election objections and election supervision processes will be discussed.
Week 11: Coalitions and Electoral Law Coalition governments and their effects on election results will be discussed.
Week 12: Course Evaluation and Current Development General evaluation of the course will be made and current developments will be discussed.
