Course Description
Criminology is an interdisciplinary field that deals with the causes of crime, behavioural patterns of criminals and methods of combating crime with scientific foundations. This course examines crime theories, crime statistics, individual and social causes of crime, victimisation and crime prevention strategies from a legal perspective.

Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to enable students to analyse the phenomenon of crime by understanding the individual and social dynamics of crime and to gain the ability to evaluate criminological theories in the context of law. Students will have knowledge about crime types, criminal profiling, victimology and crime policies and will be able to critically evaluate crime prevention strategies and the criminal justice system. In addition, it is aimed to understand the impact of law on crime and to apply criminological knowledge to concrete cases.
Course Outcomes
1. Recognises the discipline of criminology and analyses the individual and social causes of crime.
2. Knows criminological theories and evaluates the crime phenomenon within the framework of different theoretical approaches.
3. Explains the types of crime, crime profiling techniques and the concept of viktimology within the legal framework.
4. Evaluates crime prevention strategies and the impact of the criminal justice system on crime.
5. Analyses the relationship between crime and media, perception of crime and manipulation of public opinion from a critical perspective.
6. Conducts scientific studies based on criminological researches and reports their findings in academic and legal context.

Week 4: Classical and Positivist Criminological Theories
Week 5: Sociological Criminological Theories
Week 6: Biological and Psychological Criminological Theories
Week 7: Types of Crime (Violent Crimes, Economic Crimes, Organised Crime etc.)
Week 8: Offender Profiling and Crime Analysis Techniques
Week 9: Crime Victims, Rights and Protection Mechanisms
Week 10: Crime Prevention Policies and Criminal Justice System
Week 11: Crime and Media: Perception Management, Fear and Public Opinion
Week 12: Current Topics of Criminology: Digital Crimes, Terrorism
