This course delves into the historical development of human rights, focusing on how gender norms are structured within international and domestic law. It explores various theoretical perspectives on gender, how cultural determinants, social norms, and the law shape gender concepts, and examines the interplay of gender with social and political structures such as the family, state, and economy. Additionally, the course analyzes developments in both national and international law, including the Turkish Civil Code, Penal Code, and laws addressing violence against women and child protection. It encourages students to develop gender-sensitive approaches to law and understand how law influences and is influenced by gender dynamics.
