The aim of the thesis-based master's program is to enable students to gain the ability to access, evaluate and interpret information through scientific research. This program consists of at least seven courses, a seminar course and a thesis study, with a total of not less than twenty-one credits. The seminar course and thesis study are non-credit and are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. Students must register for the thesis study each semester, starting from the beginning of the third semester at the latest.
In order to apply to the master's programs, candidates must have a diploma from any 4-year undergraduate program. However, candidates who will apply to the Public Law and Private Law Master's Programs must have a Bachelor's Degree in Law, and candidates who will apply to the Clinical Psychology Master's Program must have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. In addition, candidates who will apply are expected to have a minimum undergraduate graduation grade point average announced by the institute and a minimum score from one of the foreign language exams such as ALES and YDS, E-YDS, YÖKDİL or (only valid for applications to master's programs) TOBB ETÜ foreign language exam.
Students who have taken graduate courses from universities in Turkey or abroad can request credit and grade transfer. If the request is made at the beginning of the academic year, the relevant unit's board of directors decides which courses will be transferred. Transfer requests are decided once and will cover the entire graduate education.
There are three types of exams: midterm exam, final exam and make-up exam. Midterm exams can be held during the semester. Projects, homework, laboratory, workshop and similar studies can also be used instead of midterm exams. Students who meet the Participation requirement take the final exam on the specified day and time at the end of the semester. Students with a valid excuse take a make-up exam during the semester instead of midterm exams, and within one month after the end of the final exam instead of the final exam. The date of the make-up exam is determined by the department head. The success grade of a course is obtained by evaluating the midterm exams, homework, practical work and the final exam together. The weight of the exams and practical work in the course success grade is determined by the instructor.
It is a full-time 1st education.
Students who successfully complete the credit-bearing courses and seminar courses in the thesis-based master's program and obtain the required credits must prepare a thesis proposal. The student must write his/her thesis in accordance with the thesis writing guide determined by the senate and defend it orally before the jury. The master's thesis jury is appointed upon the recommendation of the relevant department head and the approval of the institute's board of directors. The jury consists of three or five people, one of whom is the student's thesis advisor and at least one from another department within the university or another higher education institution. If the jury consists of three people, the second thesis advisor cannot be a jury member. The jury members meet within one month at the latest from the date the thesis in question is submitted to them and take the student to the thesis exam. The thesis exam consists of the presentation of the thesis work and the following question-answer session. The thesis exam is open to the audience. After the thesis exam is completed, the jury decides on "acceptance", "rejection" or "correction" of the thesis by a simple majority. This decision is notified to the relevant institute by the institute department head within three days following the thesis exam. The student whose thesis is rejected is dismissed from the institute. The student whose thesis is decided to be corrected defends his/her thesis before the same jury within three months at the latest. The student whose thesis is not accepted at the end of this defense is dismissed from the institute. The electronic copy of the thesis, the thesis data entry form filled in for the thesis requested by the Council of Higher Education, the summaries of the thesis written in Turkish and foreign languages are submitted to the institute in four copies, together with all relevant documents and information. The student's file is reviewed by the institute board of directors. The graduation of the student who has completely fulfilled all the conditions for graduation is decided. The graduate students who are decided to graduate are given a master's diploma. The approved name of the program in the institute department that the student has followed is stated on the diploma. The diplomas bear the signature of the director and the Rector.
